Who are our Childline Listeners?

Our listeners are trained staff and volunteers. All sorts of people become Childline Listeners. They’re all different ages and come from lots of different backgrounds, but what they all have in common is that they want to help young people.

A Childline Listener:

  • will listen to you and is genuine, open and friendly
  • knows it takes courage to contact us and isn’t easily shocked
  • knows about the problems young people can face
  • will let you take your time and won’t judge you or put you down.
Where are the Listeners based?

There are Childline Listeners across different parts of the country. A call is answered wherever there is a person available to listen, so no matter where you are calling from you can get through to us.

What will they say?

Our Listeners can help you work out what you want to do. We won’t tell you what we think you should do because it’s always your decision, but we can help you make that decision.

Can I speak to the same person again?

We cannot guarantee that the same person will answer your call every time you phone. However, our listeners are all trained in the same way and we’re all here to do the same job. Whoever you get through to is there to support you.

Feedback and complaints

We want to make sure every young person who contacts us has a space where they feel safe and listened to. Your feedback helps us to improve and change what we do.

Make a complaint

At Childline we always try to give you the best possible service. But there may be times when you feel we haven’t got things right and you want to make a complaint.

A complaint can be about any part of Childline. It might be about our volunteers, our website, a decision we have made or anything else around your experiences with us. If you want to make a complaint, we want to hear it so we can think about how we might do things better.

You can tell us your complaint by emailing us at info@ispcc.ie

The ISPCC’s and Childline’s complaints policy can be found on the ISPCC website.
